Book Discussion Groups
BROWN BAG BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP
Please check our CALENDAR or CALL the library's main line for the latest title and date information for all groups.
Wednesday Afternoons 1:30-2:30 pm (Monthly, except August) My Second Home Book Talks began in March of 2008. Martha Iwan, Reference Librarian and Book Discussion Leader meets with the Seniors of My Seond Home on weekly basis. Our readings take place at 11:00am, Tuesdays at the My Second Home Center on Radio Circle. Interactive readings stimulate discussion and renewed energy among the participants. Each week different and occasionally thematic readings are chosen to reflect group interest and local events.
Formed in February of 2000, the Brown Bag Book Group has read a wide
selection of entertaining and thought-provoking books. One of our first
memorable discussions was The Optimist’s Daughter by Eudora Welty, a
session which was photographed for the New York Times Westchester
section. Run by Mrs. Martha Iwan, Reference Librarian, this loyal
band of diverse readers is always ready to tackle an interesting
challenge, old or new! A selection of our favorites with links to
some reviews:
Previous Reads:
Reading Lolita in Tehran, by Azar Nafisi
Stone Diaries, by Carol Shields
Human Stain, by Philip Roth
Sir Vidia’s Shadow, by Paul Theroux
The Red Badge of Courage, by Stephen Crane
The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka
The Piano Tuner, by Daniel Mason
Mudbound, By Hillary Jordan

Welcome to 2010! As we start our ELEVENTH year, ready to take on new challenges,
we invite our library public to join our group and experience the joys of
discussing and sharing adventures in reading. As an informal group, we take
turns picking our favorites to discuss during the monthly meeting, rather
than maintaining a reading schedule.
