Laptop Loan Information for Users
Borrowing a laptop
- You
must be 16 or older and have a valid Westchester Library card and one
picture ID in order to borrow a laptop for use within the Library.
- You
may use the laptop within the Library only. DO NOT REMOVE THE LAPTOP FROM THE
BUILDING.
- You
are responsible for the laptop and contents of the kit. You will be charged for loss of or
damage to the equipment up to the full replacement cost ($1800.00 as of
11/07).
- Laptops
may be used for up to one hour at a time.
There are no reserves or renewals.
Overdue fines are $10.00 per hour or part thereof, and there is no
grace period.
- Please
shut down the laptop properly and return it and the kit to the checkout
desk at the end of your one hour borrowing period.
Saving your files
- Your
data is NOT saved on the laptop hard drive after the laptop is
returned. Every time a laptop is
checked in and restarted, security software restores it to the condition
it was in when it was checked out to you, erasing your files.
- You
may save files on your own portable USB flash memory stick or you may
purchase a CDRW disk for $2.00 at the checkout desk.
Privacy
- No
security system is perfect and the Library cannot guarantee that your
privacy will be protected on any shared computer.
- When
you return the laptop, our security software will erase your browsing
history, files, bookmarks, and cookies.
Printing
- Printing
from the laptop is not currently available, but offering this service is a
high priority for the future.
Audio
- Laptop
sound must not disturb other patrons or staff. Earbuds are available for purchase at
the checkout desk for $1.00, or you may use your own.
- You
may listen to audio CDs on the laptop, but the Library cannot guarantee
that all audio CDs will play correctly.
- You
may watch DVDs on the laptop, but the Library cannot guarantee that all
DVDs will play correctly.
Technical Assistance
- Because
of other customer service responsibilities and the wide variety of
hardware and software questions that may come up, staff will not be able
to help patrons use or troubleshoot laptop hardware or software.
